In 1976 the artist was commissioned by the Seattle Public Library to design and fabricate works for 5 branch libraries. The first and largest of these works is installed in the Queen Anne Library. The work - titled Quintet in D is a musical transcription based design.
The 7 colors of the spectrum are coordinated to the 7 notes of a musical scale. Denser tones of the spectrum are lower octave notes and lighter tones are higher octaves. A parabolic nets of lines overlaid on the musical transcription grid geometry are drawn from radio magnetic charts of the Pacific Northwest.
